Company description
Hello, we are 2210 (Cowley) Squadron of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, which is the local air cadet squadron for Oxford. We are a youth organisation sponsored and supported by the Royal Air Force but we are not part of it and are a registered charity.
Our role is to inspire and develop an interest in aviation and community spirit through a sense of fun and adventure with cadets experiencing a variety of activities including; the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, target shooting, camping, hiking, qualifying as a glider pilot, completing a flying scholarship. We do military foot drill as a team building exercise and adventure training to develop independence and leadership skills as much as we make aircraft model kits and do target shooting to encourage self-discipline and attention to detail. The majority of our activities are linked to qualifications such as First Aid at Work Certificate, Basic Expedition Leader Award, BTEC certificate in Aviation Studies and the BTEC diploma in Public Services.
For those career minded teenagers we provide opportunities through a network of organisations such as the Royal Aeronautical Society who invite and encourage cadets to attend events and seminars, there are opportunities to visit aviation companies from those who build aircraft, to Research and Development businesses to those who build orbital satellites and all the support activities associated with operating airports or delivering air shows. This gives great opportunities to learn the industry and network.
Should an individual wish to join the Royal Air Force we can support their interest by giving them knowledge of what the RAF does, its terminology, what aircraft it has, who does what in the RAF, its structure, where it operates and to a small degree what the service, and in particular culture and ethos of the RAF is. We can't get people in the RAF but we can help.
Intakes for new cadets are on the second Monday of each month. If you would like more information please visit www.aircadets.tv/2210 or email
[email protected] to register on our waiting list for the next intake.
