Dr Cathy McQuaid is an integrative humanistic counsellor, psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer
With nearly 20 years experience as a therapist and 30 working within the helping professions, I know counselling and psychotherapy work.
I offer counselling and psychotherapy for individuals and couples, using a combination of the person-centred approach with Transactional Analysis and psychodynamic theoretical models. I believe the client themselves holds the answers to their questions. What I provide is warmth, compassion, respect and a safe space in which they can tell their story: a willingness to share the therapeutic journey and to help them to reach the goals they set. The approaches I use can help the client understand the history of their difficulties, and offer a way forward in terms of restructuring or realigning their perceptions of life, helping them rediscover their drive towards wholeness and health. I also offer supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors and psychotherapists, something I have done since 2002, and am endorsed to teach Transactional Analysis by the European Association for Transactional Analysis. More information about Transactional Analysis is here.
I do not offer telephone or on-line counselling. Initially, I offer all potential clients an initial assessment, usually lasting an hour, to discuss any concerns and decide whether we want to work together and whether I would be the best counsellor or therapist for their needs. If we decide to work together we can then decide what it you want from the process, and discuss regular review sessions so that we can keep a focus on your therapy goals.
If for any reason we decide not to work together, I can provide contact details of colleagues who may be better suited to the client’s needs.
I see clients weekly, during the day. I prefer to see clients at the same time on the same day each week, but appreciate this is not always possible and am willing to negotiate times and days individually.
If you have any questions, or would like to make an appointment, please email me via this link or call me on 01208 74600 between 9.30am and 5pm. I do not interrupt sessions to answer the phone, but there is a confidential answering machine; please leave your name, number and any message, and I will call you back.
