Company description

It consists of 3 parts, the barrel has the keyway and is also where the pins are. The barrel extends through the door and can rotate when in the locked position. Finger pins lock into holes drilled around the barrel so that it cannot turn. It is attached to the lock body at each end with bushing, or bushings allowing for alignment during assembly and heat expansion during firing. Two side pins hold the cylinder in place giving an even amount of pressure on either side of the plug as well as holding it in place while not engaged by keeping all moving parts trapped between two steel plates. A rim cylinder is the most commonly found type of lock cylinder. It has been used for over a hundred years, and while there are many improvements to this design, it remains a very popular choice of manufacturers and consumers. Rim cylinders can be identified by their thin designs, small diameter keyways, and flat bottom construction at the top of the plug. Occasionally they can also be identified by their lack of anti-drill pins or other security features. A rim cylinder's simplicity makes it popular among locksmiths because its vulnerabilities can often be easily bypassed with little additional skill as compared to more complicated designs like wafer tumbler cylinders or tubular rekey able locks. Rim cylinders have weaknesses that can sometimes make them weak against certain attacks, such as lock picking (using a variety of techniques), impressions (which involves using the key to capture the plug while it is in one position and then copying that shape), or combination-bumping (also known as code-busting). Rim cylinders are generally considered easier to pick than wafer tumbler cylinders because their construction allows more flexibility around the edges of the pins. Complicated picks can be used for this purpose but they are not necessary.
