The village of Worth developed in the 16th century, when the castles of Sandown, Deal and Walmer were built. The Downs became an anchorage comparatively safe from marauders, and more settled conditions came to this part of the coastline. Trade naturally followed and this period saw the beginning of the red brick style of building, of which there are still a few pleasing examples in the village today. The local church, however, shows traces of Norman (12th century) work. Today, much of the land on the seaward side is part of the famous Prince's and Royal St George's golf courses. The Blue Pigeons Inn stands directly opposite the village church, whilst also overlooking the village duck pond. It is ideally positioned for other delightful local attractions including the Sandwich, Deal, and Dover High Street's and shops.
