Wedding Story
RESTAURANT Loyal customers come from far and wide for the pleasure of dining at Stanley and Maria Matthews' pleasing restaurant on the handsome, wide main street of this attractive town. Wedding blessings are not possible here but there is a choice of churches nearby and, for anyone who is planning a small wedding and cares about good food, this low-key but hospitable restaurant is just the place to be on your wedding day. The Lime Tree is known for generous classically-based menus and ingredients that are always carefully sourced, often local. Stanley is a real can-do person and nothing is too much trouble, so he will plan a personalised menu with the bride and groom, which can include specialities like the wholesome house chowder of Atlantic fish & local potatoes (served with their own home-made wheaten bread, which is also the perfect accompaniment for the finest Irish smoked salmon, served with cucumber salad) and main course favourites like Sperrin lamb (with honey & rosemary), fillet or sirloin steak (from the award-winning local butcher, Hunters) and seafood thermidor (Stanley's selection of fresh fish with a mild cheese & brandy sauce). Although Stanley is known for the way he works on popular dishes to give them a creative new twist, his cooking is refreshingly down-to-earth: if it's on the menu, it's there because it works: there are no gimmicks. A wedding cake service is also offered, Maria is a welcoming and solicitous hostess - and their concise, interesting wine list offers predictably good value.
